Well, we are sorry, we worked on our GTD application. But here are the news: new version of RSStab.com has been deployed. It is numbered 0.2.4 and carries codename Scarlett after character from Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone with the Wind, Scarlett O’Hara.

Fixed errors

1. Broken layout in Firefox 3.5 causing strange 1 pixel gap was fixed.

1. Redesigned form for editing channels tabs.
2. Password protected feeds can be configured.

Recently we changed theme for our blog. It has still some little bugs, but it works and is more similar to application itself. But it is only small new thing. The bigger one is:

If you have registered account on RSStab.com, you may used that login and password also for GTDtab.com. But read its terms of use before!

We also created support blog for the service, but be patient and wait for posts there. And guess what? It has same theme

recently we had some serious problems with database server on hosting site for the project RSStab. On such and error message Internal server error was displayed in RSS channel tab. These problems were partialy caused by enormous interest in the service itself and by overload situation on the server. Therefore we made some code changes to do few database queries faster with less memory consumption. Now service is up and running fine.

If you still feel something is wrong and we solved nothing, write us. Also we would appreciate if anybody would be interested in solution, just ask us and we may write short story with some code fragments.

How does it work?

On main page of the service any user signed in has an icon next to the caption of items in RSS channel plate. This icon is in default image of star with grey edges. By clicking on icon user sets item as Stared item and icon star should be colored in yellow. Mouse click on yellow icon reverts status back (non-stared).

In tools tab, which is also new feature of same deployment, there is item Stared, by clicking on it a list of Stared items is shown. Each line in the list contain date of issue and caption of Stared item.

At the and of line, two tools are available to manage item: RSS icon (default colored as gray meaning private - not public) and icon to remove item (”X” like). By clicking on RSS icon, status of item can be toggled to public (orange colored icon) or not. Public items are provided as RSS channel on address

where [username] has to be replaced with user login name. E.g. user giorno has his Stared digest on address

Fixed errors

1. Minor layout corrections, mostly to increase compatibility with MSIE browsers.
2. For RSS feeds without proper datetime information (a NULL accident) engine was adjusted to use datetime of fetching.

New features

1. UI widget for adding new tab was removed and replaced with Tools tab.
2. User can mark link as unread by icon next to the caption. Such an action puts the item back to Fast Track pool.
3. Fast Track panel little bit visually improved.
4. User can add link to the list of Stared items and manage this list.
5. Certain items from Stared can be marked for public RSS channel so anybody can deliver his/her own stared digest in RSS.
6. New logo and favicon of the service. We hope you will enjoy them!
7. New settings options:
   1. Overlaping of tabs/menu bar (e.g. for sparing space).
   2. Way of switching RSS channels (by mouse over or by click).
   3. Size of the list - number of items per one page.

1. Conflicting links containing ampersands, question marks and other HTTP entities are escaped and now working in Fast Track feature.
2. Timing for updating Fast Track item was improved to be synchronous in AJAX an to provide proper information about not visited links.
